a bad day at the range is better than a good day in the office

i've come a long way since basic training when it took a faulty lane on the range to help me qualify. i'm convinced that i didn't hit the required 23 targets to qualify; the drill sergeants had mercy on me and used the target that stayed up for only half a second as an excuse to give me my basic marksmanship badge.
when we went to the range i got my m-16 zeroed and went out and put holes in 37 targets on the first try. i don't know that i've lived up completely to the mcbride standard. i still remember stories about my dad hitting a nail on the head from 100 yards and uncle mac putting 6 bullets through a tin can as it danced through the air. if they don't remember these stories it's probably because they didn't happen, but they were told to me and i have perpetuated them nonetheless. i'm happy with my performance though.
